Pupils from Hereford Cathedral School have been celebrating today after a clean sweep in STEM subjects with every candidate achieving a C grade or above including an incredible 92 A*s.
Every pupil achieved an A*-C grade in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Additional Maths. Overall 81 percent of all grades achieved were a grade B or above and 57 percent of grades were an A* - A.
At least a fifth of all students achieved all A*-As, and two pupils, Tom B (pictured below), and Huw T were delighted with outstanding results each securing 12 A* grades.
Lily C, Harriet W and Scott F-W gained 11 A*, May G, Caitlin L, Victoria S, Maxim F and Clare B achieved 10 A*s; Chris U and Josh H achieved nine A*s.
Three quarters of candidates sitting GCSEs in Art, Chemistry, Latin, Additional Maths, and Music achieved A*-As and nine departments secured a 100 percent pass rate (grade A* - C).
Headmaster Paul Smith said: “Grades in STEM subjects have been particularly strong this year which will offer our pupils a firm foundation as they move towards their A Level studies and then on to Higher Education. However, other subject areas have also done extremely well, for example in Art and Music over three quarters of all grades achieved were at least an A grade.
“We are immensely proud not only of our A* pupils but all of our students, many of whom have worked very hard to achieve great grades. Our aim is to stretch and challenge pupils at all levels to help them realise their potential and our GCSE results reflect this.”
